After drinking lots of Havana Club Anêjo Especial in Cuba, I decided it would be a nice treat to bring something a little nicer back to Canada. In the duty free section of the Varadero airport, I picked up a 1 litre bottle of the fancier 7 year old Havana Club for 20 CUC.
The whole time we were in Cuba, I thought this beer was from Guatemala. Turns out I was wrong.
This was our go to rum. At 4.45 CUC per half litre bottle, we went through a few of these during our short trip!
The pirate vibes that Cuba kept giving me built up a crazy excitement for this beer simply because it was called Bucanero and had a pirate on the can. Boy was I being misled.
I just got back from an eight day, seven night trip to Cuba with my friend Ian. The purpose of the trip was to explore the vintage 1950s feel of the nation before any large American corporations get their grubby paws in the door, but we also had plenty of time to sample the cervezas nacional y bebidas nacional.
Ahoy there. It’s been a while since my last post, but I’ve been busy exploring Cuba and its various drinks! I hope to have a few reviews from Cuba uploaded soon; in the meantime, here’s a review from our holiday party.
Ian brought over a Spinnakers beer to share that neither of us had tried before. We proceeded to jot down some tasting notes.
