This is the story of a whacky beer that I shared with my Polish housemates mere moments before setting off from my home in York to the train station, where I would begin my journey back to Canada.
The Coffee Ruby: Very Bitter Taste Dark Version by Fantôme
Appearance: next to no head, amber, 8%
Nose: grapefruit, sourness nearly like a Flemish red
Palate: round, salty, minerally, touch of dark coffee
Finish: dry, roasty, bitterness
Overall: It has all the beer flavours in it—dark fruits, citrus, hops, floral, spices, herbs, malt, toffee, burnt, sweet, sour, bitter, dry. Interesting for some, overwhelming for others. Not really a surprise that it’s brewed by the same Belgians who made this crazy saison!
Rating: 4/5 Excellent
P.S. I successfully returned to Canada and have since fallen back into the Okanagan swing of things. But fear not sweet Albion, I shall return to thee in September!
