On the 13th of December 2016, my mates and I tested out the “Greatest Hits” pub crawl. Beginning at The Bent Mast around 2:30 in the afternoon, and wrapping up at about 11:00 in The Drake, it was a smashing success!
In total, eleven of my friends stopped by for a drink at a pub, on average staying for two or three pubs. Myself, Ian, Stephen, and Evan, managed to run the gamut of all five pubs. We reversed the order of the final two so that we could accommodate peoples pressing desire for food at Swans.
Between pubs we did some great marching and group singing out loud of Barrett’s Privateers, to the delight of many passersby.
I tried many interesting brews, including the Phillips Citricity Grapefruit Zest IPA, a Fuggles & Warlock Sour, and some old favourites such as Hoyne’s Dark Matter.
Eamon tried a deliciously interesting Christmas cider at Smith’s. I wish I could remember what it was called!
At Garrick’s Head, Evan ordered one bourbon, one Scotch, and one beer. Cue the George Thorogood!
After leaving Swans, and before entering The Drake, we smoked a bowl of fine tobacco from Kaegan’s pipe. Then, when I was at The Drake, I went for a four beer tasting flight, consisting of the following:
Steel & Oak Smoked Honey Doppelbock: tastes of gently smoked gouda, 3/5 Good
Four Winds Passionfruit Berliner Weisse: quite tart, blueberry pie, subtle grapefruit flavours, 4/5 Excellent
Firestone Walker Union Jack IPA: pine needles, 3/5 Good
Brasserie Dunham Saison Cassis: hint of cranberries, fizzy, 3/5 Good
