This is one of my sister’s favourite beers. She once gave me an assortment of beverages in exchange for snow-sealing her hiking boots before the tree planting season, and it included one of these and a Nelson Faceplant Winter Ale.
The Chestnut Ale is only available from October to April, making it an autumnal seasonal that is just too good to be confined to one season. I found that it pairs very nicely with a meal of roasted root vegetables.
Appearance: nice beige head, dark copper body.
Nose: sweet toffee malt, hickory.
Palate: nutty, roasted apples, caramel.
Finish: some endive bitterness well balanced with fudge liqueur; very smooth.
Rating: 4/5 Excellent
