In mid January, I went out for drinks at Spinnakers with Andrew and Lys. They gave me a late Christmas gift: a hardcover book about the Queen Mother. I love it, seriously. We also reminisced about the time they came over for cream tea (a form of English afternoon tea) and when Gractor sat on Andrew’s back.
Whilst we conversed, I tried the Hand-Pulled Cask-Conditioned Ale version of the Spinnakers ESB, and I can report that it is still Excellent!
Next I tried the Honey Mussel Saison. This is one of the weirder ideas I have ever seen for a beer, but surprisingly it works! It is a Belgian style Saison, that has had local mussels added to it. I don’t know at what stage they add the mussels, but if you’re a vegetarian, maybe this beer isn’t for you.
Appearance: yellow, no head.
Nose: honey mustard, sea spray, floral hops, mussels.
Palate: honeydew, butterscotch malt, faint mango.
Finish: mango, hops, then faint honey mustard.
Rating: 4/5 Excellent
