Sunday morning I watched the Liverpool FC-Newcastle United FC premier league match with my friends Stephen and Mark. The matchup was particularly exciting because I am a Newcastle fan, and they are Liverpool fans. We made bacon and egg cheese bunwiches, drank Typhoo tea, and thoroughly enjoyed exercising our Englishness.
Based on each clubs’ recent run of form, we were all expecting a Liverpool victory. So when Newcastle came up with a shock 2-0 victory, I was absolutely delighted! After the game, we perused the respective subReddit of each club to great hilarity (some of the top posts for Newcastle were titled “Anyone ever fucked a watermelon?” and “What the fuck”). I think my Toon Army mates might be a little sick in the head… Too much Jersey Shore, errr, Geordie Shore. Later on I decided to have a celebratory beer!
Since the only English beer in my fridge was Fuller’s London Pride, I duly drank that instead of the slightly more appropriate Newcastle Brown Ale.
Appearance: coppery? creamy head.
Nose: a lovely balanced nose with biscuity malt and heather hops.
Palate: a full, round mouthfeel, with a bit of hops and sprouted bread.
Finish: a bit more hops than the palate, refreshing, long lasting.
Overall: An exquisitely simple, yet well balanced beer.
Rating: 4/5 Excellent
