Along with the previously reviewed Iceberg Lager, James also left me with the intriguing Bennett Dominion Ale. To be honest, I was not expecting much before I opened the bottle, but the label was too beautifully nostalgic to allow for this beer to be drunk without any sort of an observation.
Nose: cheap lager
Palate: bland lager
Finish: watery Canada Dry
Rating: 1/5 Bad
After trying the beer, I was still intrigued enough to do a bit of research. Here is an interesting post about the history of the Dominion Ale. Included is this classic advertisement,
“There’s something really different about the first time you sit down to enjoy a Dominion. One look at it tells you to get ready for a satisfying, ‘all male’ taste.
Enjoy a Dominion Ale. You’ll know you’re having one.”
Wow, it’s hard to imagine why Dominion Ale didn’t conquer the world with its unexpected lager taste and sexist advertisements.
