I left off my story last blog post while in the clutches of a pair of sirens, Joni Mitchell and Lighthouse’s Siren Red, with the intention of trying my new pumpkin ale. What with Thanksgiving fast approaching, it made sense to give it a try and get a little deeper into the Autumnal spirit!
Phillips Crookeder Tooth
Appearance: Amber liquid with a nice head.
Nose: Real pumpkin pie, not too sweet. A Fucking Excellent nose.
Palate: A freshly baked and moist, yet nearly burned, pumpkin loaf. Nutmeg. Quite nice.
Finish: Pumpkin infused corn syrup and malty; this clashes with the rest of the beer. A better finish would bring this beer up a rating level or two.
Overall: Definitely better cold than warm, which is a bit odd, since most well crafted, flavourful beers, often benefit from being warmed up a bit rather than being too cold. All in all, worthy of a taste this Thanksgiving (or Hallowe’en) if you want to try something new!
Rating: 3/5 Good
